When is the best time to travel?
The best time to travel is especially the time from February to May. February and March are the driest months. August is also considered to be relatively dry, a phenomenon called "short dry season" often occurs here. Then the winds from the southeast die down and dry westerly winds determine the weather for a while. From January, the north winds that bring rain to the country begin to abate. It also gets warm enough around this time that visitors can already enjoy a vacation with lots of outdoor activities. The rainy season is in the months of September, October to November. The west of the country is generally somewhat cooler than the coastal regions; temperatures on the coast vary from lows of 15 degrees in January to 35 degrees in August.
Lamanai Outpost Lodge
Lamanai Outpost Lodge offers the ideal starting point for excursions in the surrounding area. Discover the fascinating nature and culture with a variety of diversified activities. For example, discover the jungle early in the morning with a naturalist: when dawn breaks and the mist rises through the canopy, the jungle awakens.
You will learn more about the intricacies of a habitat that is home to animals as diverse as the jaguar, the impressive black howler monkey, the jaguarundi and the colorful toucan. Or experience the environment under the stars: hear how the owls and bats hunt and gather and how the groups of howler monkeys talk to each other above the canopy of leaves.
Lamanai Mayan Ruins
Sounds come from everywhere, while many species such as frogs and tarantulas, as well as other mammal and bird species, become active in the late hours of the evening. Another highlight is a visit to the Lamanai Mayan Ruins, where you will be accompanied by an experienced guide to explore the mysterious jungle temples of this once mighty 3000-year-old civilization, where nature and ancient history lived together. The ruins of Lamanai include over 700 structures, a visitor center and a museum.
Small country in the Caribbean
Belize is only a small country in the Caribbean, but it is full of wonders. From the oldest known Mayan sites to the second largest reef system in the world, there is much to marvel at here. Dive into mysterious jungle ruins and discover the Mayan world. Get a glimpse into the living traditions of this ancient culture as local women demonstrate how to make tortillas. You will gain insight into conservation work at an animal sanctuary established by a National Geographic grantee. To end the trip on the paradise island of Caye Caulker on the Belize Barrier Reef is a special experience.
